Solutions Overview

INTEGRITY PROMISE: It is natural and in fact smart of you to be skeptical of anything recommended on the Internet. Since you don't know me, I think it is important that I tell you upfront that I do NOT have a financial interest in any of the solutions below. I do NOT own stock in any of these manufactures and I have NOT been paid to endorse these.

Bump keys are just one example of a threat to your personal safety. Some of these solutions address bump keys directly but we are not limiting ourselves to that single threat. Instead we are giving you a broad range of security tips that will help make your home less inviting to an opportunistic criminal.
  • Lock Your Doors and Windows (free) - Obvious, but I have to say it. If you don't even secure your home with the locks you already have then lock bumping isn't the primary concern. Most crimes are ones of opportunity so don't tempt trouble.
  • Replace Your Locks (about $20-$25 per deadbolt)
  • - New affordable bump resistant locks are now available and can be installed yourself. I cover this in great detail including model numbers and suppliers in the free newsletter. I personally replaced my deadbolts with new Kwikset SmartKey with BumpGuard locks that I bought from Lowe's.
  • Get High Security Locks (expensive, about $150 per deadbolt) - As mentioned in some of the videos, you can get high security locks from Medico or Schlage Primus that are "bump proof". I personally was fine with the more affordable Kwikset locks but these high security locks have an extra security feature of controlled keys. Would be bumpers will have a hard time even getting blanks to make a bump key.
  • Pets - Having a dog (inside or out; large or small) is a great deterrent to a burglar.
  • Lighting (low cost) - Outdoor lighting such as a street light or motion sensor light will make your home less attractive to a burglar.
  • Well Maintained Landscaping (free) - Overgrown bushes give a burglar additional places to hide. Keep your landscaping well maintained with safety in mind. Thorny bushes planted below first floor windows will also discourage burglars.
  • Alarm System ($35 per month)
  • - Simply having a "protected by" alarm warning sign in your yard may be enough to deter some burglars. However, if you don't mind a contract then for about $1 per day you can have a 24/7 monitored alarm system.
  • Time Controlled Indoor Lighting - Having lights that come on automatically can make it appear that you are home even if you aren't.
  • and much more - The tips above are just a few ideas for your personal safety plan. These and many others are covered in more detail in the newsletter below.
