To make this notice easy to find, we make it available on our homepage and at every point where personally identifiable information may be requested.
This notice applies to all information collected or submitted on the BanBumpKeys.com website. When you sign the petition or subscribe to the newsletter we ask for the following personal information:
-
Name
Address
Email address
Comments
We encourage you to provide all of this information however only name and email address are required.
Petition Information
When you sign the petition your name and optional comment may be displayed on the site as one of the current signatures. Your other information, including mailing address and email address, will never appear on the site.
Signature counts may be totaled at the city, state and/or zip code level in order to emphasize the level of petition support on a regional basis. When totaling signatures we use unique email addresses to count unique signers. Such aggregated totals may appear on the site however since it is at a summary level it will not contain any personally identifiable information.
We never publish or release your email address to 3rd parties, including politicians. We will not send you any email as a result of you signing the petition unless you also agree to receive our newsletter and email updates.
Newsletter Information
You may subscribe to our email newsletter from either the newsletter signup screen or when signing the petition via a checkbox.
Newsletter subscriptions are double opt-in which means you will need to click a link in your confirmation email to allow your subscription to begin. We currently use aweber, a well known email service provider, to manage the newsletter list. Aweber automatically adds unsubscribe links to every email so you will be able to easily remove yourself from the list if you ever desire to unsubscribe.
Newsletters and email updates are not currently sent on a set schedule. The initial focus of the newsletter will be related to protecting yourself from bump keys. However, other "protect you" type topics may be included or may be the subject of future newsletters. The intent is to provide useful information that you will appreciate receiving. You will always be able to unsubscribe using a link within the newsletter emails.
When you subscribe to the newsletter we ask for your mailing address. This gives us the ability to send emails to a subset of the list based on geography. For example, if we have an important update that only applies to North Carolina subscribers then we have the ability to send that email out only to the North Carolina subscribers.
We do not have current plans to send you any physical mail. However, we reserve this right for the future. Your mailing address will never be sold, rented or given away to 3rd parties.
Blog
Our blog allows you to post comments which may be displayed on the site. The name you provide while posting your comment may also be displayed on the site, however, your email address will not be displayed. Your email address will only be available to us and may be used by us to communicate with you regarding your comment.
Warning Your Friends
We encourage you to Tell Others about the bump key threat. We do NOT ask you to give us your friends contact information during this process. Instead, we have designed our site in a way that makes it easy for you to send the warning email directly from your email system instead of ours. This means you are NOT disclosing any personal information about your friends in this process.
Visitor History and Log Files
As with most other websites, we collect and use the data contained in log files. The information in the log files include your IP (internet protocol) address, your ISP (internet service provider, such as AOL or Shaw Cable), the browser you used to visit our site (such as Internet Explorer or Firefox), the time you visited our site and which pages you visited throughout our site.
We use non-identifying and aggregate information to better design our website and to share with future advertisers. For example, we may tell an advertiser that X number of individuals visited a certain area on our website but we would not disclose anything that could be used to identify those individuals.
Finally, we never use or share the personally identifiable information provided to us online in ways unrelated to the ones described above without also providing you an opportunity to opt-out or otherwise prohibit such unrelated uses.
Our Commitment To Data Security
To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online.
